Studies show that over 50% of cavities go undetected by x-rays and oral exam and therefore are not caught until they are more serious and require more treatment.  Dr. Neufeld uses the Diagnodent laser to make sure problems are caught early.

The Diagnodent wand glides over your teeth causing beeps where cavities are found.  It is completely safe, painless and included free with our regular exams.

Children and young adults, especially benefit from the Diagnodent exam.  Widespread use of fluoride has made tooth surfaces harder and more resistant to decay.  However, cavities can sneak through microscopic defects in the enamel and spread below the surface while the enamel still seems to be intact making diagnosis difficult.

Catching cavities early allows treatment to be more conservative and saves more of your natural tooth.  Diagnodent also saves you money by allowing treatment that is relatively small compared to more major treatment that would be needed if the cavity were found later.
