Preventing Bad Breath

Many people have concerns about bad breath. As a social
embarrassment, it's surely near the top of the list.
Mouthwashes and mints only help for a short period of time and
sometimes even contribute to the problem. To stop bad breath,
also known as halitosis, we need to eliminate it at the source.
Certain foods, such as onions, garlic, and spices will cause bad
breath. Some medical and systemic problems such as sinusitis
or dry mouth can also contribute.
Here at Dr. Neufeld’s Dental Health Center, we find that most causes are
local in nature. Bacteria are the real culprits.
Bacteria are present in the mouth, lungs, sinuses and stomach.
In the mouth, they cause gum disease and cavities. These
dental problems are so prevalent that they are the first things that
Dr. Neufeld suspects when it comes to halitosis. Gum disease
and cavities also have risks associated with health and tooth loss,
so there are many benefits of getting them under control.
Sometimes, old or poorly made dental work is also a source of
odor. Dry mouth is another condition that contributes to bad
breath and cavities.
Whatever the cause, if you have concerns about bad breath, it is
important to see the dentist for a thorough examination.
Halitosis is often a sign of dental problems, which may become
serious. Dr. Neufeld can help eliminate these problems and let
you feel confident about your breath again.
