Night Guards for Tooth Clenching
and Grinding

Dr. Neufeld sees patients on a daily basis who have fractured or
worn looking teeth due to bruxism, a condition in which patients
clench or grind their teeth.
Research shows that most of the damage is done in our sleep and
that we put 10 times the amount of pressure on our teeth then as we
do when we are awake. Signs that you may be grinding your
teeth include fractures, uneven edges, headaches, sore jaws,
ditching at the gum line, and short or flat teeth. As teeth
become shorter, the distance between the upper and lower jaw is
reduced resulting in a collapsed looking mouth and facial wrinkles.
If caught early, the damage to the teeth can be slowed and major
dental work can be delayed and possibly prevented. If you
already have very short teeth, they can be rebuilt with dental
restorations.
Dr. Neufeld may recommend a night guard appliance if you are wearing out your teeth or having sensitivity due to grinding. Many people also use them after cosmetic treatment to protect their investment. Nightguards are worn while you sleep and prevent your teeth from coming in contact and causing damage. Here, at Dr. Neufeld’s Dental Health Center, we make guards that are thin and comfortable. Most people find them affordable and easy to use.
