Non-Surgical Gum Therapy
Here
at Dr. Neufeld’s Dental Health Center, we do our best to help you
avoid gum surgery. Dr. Neufeld and our gentle Hygienists will
evaluate your condition on several levels. They will check the
depth of the crevices around each tooth to see if they are deeper
than the normal range of 2-3 millimeters. They will review your
dental x-rays, and evaluate your plaque under a microscope to
identify specific bacteria involved.If
treatment is recommended, it may include additional visits with the
Hygienist for therapy, oral rinses or medications, and any other
tools the Hygienist feels will support you in maintaining a healthy
condition.
People who are susceptible to gum disease may
need to see their Hygienist more frequently, often at 3 or 4 month
intervals. Gum disease is contagious and episodic. It can flare up
at any time. Since gum disease can contribute to conditions like
diabetes and heart disease, in addition to tooth loss, it is
important to keep it under control.
