Replace Silver Mercury Fillings

Tooth-colored "resin" fillings

For over 100 years, dentists have restored teeth with silver fillings, which are also called amalgams. These silver fillings are 50% mercury and mercury expands and contracts with hot and cold. That is why it was used in thermometers. With silver fillings, this expansion and contraction often initiates cracks in teeth. Once the teeth are cracked, they need more extensive and expensive treatment like a crown, and sometimes a root canal.

Tooth colored fillings have no mercury and actually bond to teeth, making them stronger. They may even prevent crowns and other major dental work. Simply changing your silver-mercury fillings to tooth colored fillings is a cost effective way of protecting your natural teeth. And, they look great too!

The mercury in silver-mercury fillings is considered a major toxin by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the State of California. It is a hazardous material that cannot be thrown in the trash and special precautions have to be taken to handle it. So, here at Dr. Neufeld’s Dental Health Center, we believe it does not make sense to put it in people’s mouths. Dr. Neufeld has not used silver, fillings in over 15 years and is very experienced with better alternatives. He is also well known for offering special precautions during mercury filling removal for those who need or want it.

Whether you want to have tooth-colored fillings because they look good, protect your teeth, or you have concerns about mercury, we have the experience and special equipment to help you.
